Today is a day to celebrate the valuable contributions, achievements and accomplishments of volunteers across the world, providing an opportunity for volunteer organisations and individual volunteers to show their contributions to peace and development. It was Inaugurated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985, the day 5th December is celebrated by the United Nations Volunteers, Non governmenal organisations, international organisations, government agencies, private sector and civil society organisations across the world.

Volunteering provides opportunities for people, particularly those often excluded, to concretely impact their own lives and play a constructive role in their communities by volunteering their time and skills. Through volunteerism, communities around the world often experience strengthened solidarity and inclusion.

Yoma is a digital marketplace where youth can build their futures by actively engaging in social impact tasks as well as learning to earning opportunities. Personal growth is incentivized with digital tokens that can be swapped for digital services or physical goods. And young people’s successes are recorded on a verifiable digital CV, for sharing with potential employers.

UReport Nigeria  is a messaging tool that empowers young people around the world to engage with and speak out on issues that matter to them. It works by gathering opinions and information from young people on topics they care about – ranging from employment to discrimination and child marriage. Nigeria Learning Passport is an online e-learning platform with mobile and offline capability that enables continuous access to quality education. It is highly flexible and adaptable, allowing states to easily and quickly adopt the platform as their learning management systems or use it to complement existing digital learning efforts. To align with this year’s #InternationalVolunteerDay theme of solidarity with volunteers, I ask young people who selflessly volunteering their time to support and empower communities to do there self a solidarity also by signing into yoma, Ureport and Nigerian learning passport.
