The Executive Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, yesterday inaugurated the SCRAP Committee and Kuje Market Management Committee to strengthen environmental sanitation, urban order, security and effective market management across the council. He charged the SCRAP Committee to identify and regulate scrap collection points, evacuate abandoned scraps, enforce environmental regulations and maintain a reliable database of genuine scrap operators.

Hon. Shekwolo said the committees were established to restore order and improve the wellbeing of residents, stressing that their operations must be guided by fairness, transparency, inclusiveness and a human face. He directed the Market Management Committee to address multiple taxation, poor sanitation, illegal stalls, revenue leakages, security concerns and improper shop allocations, while ensuring that traders are treated with dignity and carried along.

The Chairman emphasised that the administration’s development agenda requires a clean, organised and secure environment where residents, traders, women, youths and non-indigenes can thrive. He therefore urged members of both committees to work closely with stakeholders and the council administration in delivering on their mandates, with an interim report from the SCRAP Committee expected within three weeks.

Meanwhile, the Kuje Area Council Scholarship Committee has commenced the screening of students across Kuje area council as part of the administration’s commitment to supporting education and promoting the academic aspirations of residents. The initiative, alongside the inauguration of the two committees, reflects Hon. Shekwolo’s people-oriented approach to governance and his commitment to inclusive development across the council.
