Governor Mutfwang Sets Foundation for Livestock-Led Economic Growth in Plateau

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has flagged off the construction of a state-of-the-art ultra-modern abattoir with a processing capacity of 500 cattle per day at Pwomol Village, Heipang, alongside a Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
Supported by the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, the projects are aimed at transforming livestock production, improving food safety standards, creating employment opportunities, attracting private sector investment, and strengthening the entire livestock value chain.

As a strategic component of the Heipang Special Agro-Processing Zone, the ultra-modern abattoir will replace outdated slaughter practices with a world-class meat processing facility, positioning Plateau State as a leading destination for livestock investment, meat processing, and agro-industrial growth.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Mutfwang described the project as the foundation of a new economic era for Plateau State—one focused on value addition, industrialization, wealth creation, and sustainable prosperity.
Beyond livestock processing, the initiative is expected to stimulate economic activities across the agricultural ecosystem, creating opportunities for feed producers, transporters, processors, cold-chain operators, veterinarians, and entrepreneurs.
More than the construction of an abattoir, this project represents a bold investment in jobs, food security, private sector growth, and the long-term economic development of Plateau State.
