Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has trained over 120 women drawn from the North-Central geopolitical zone on how to use digital technology to showcase their businesses .
Declaring the training open at the University of Abuja permanent site, Senator Oluremi Tinubu said the programme, in collaboration with Huawei Nigeria, is targeted at helping Nigerian women to advance themselves technologically in this digital age.
The training tagged “Women-In-Tech Skills Training” which is an initiative of the First Lady, is being driven by Governor’s wives across the 36 states, with the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, spearheading the course in the nation’s capital.
Senator Tinubu who was represented by the Mandate Secretary, FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, Dr Adedayo Benjamins- Laniyi urged the participants to take the training seriously, develop themselves and train others.
She said the programme which had empowered 40 women in FCT, and a total of 120 in digital skills in the North Central Region, had helped the women to learn the aspect of using their phones to promote their businesses.
“To you the participants, from FCT, Niger, Nasarawa and Kwara, take the training seriously and be prepared to teach others the skills to make the society better.Don’t just limit your phones to taking selfie. Huawei is the way forward.”

In a remark, the Acting Vice Chancellor, University Of Abuja, Prof Aisha Maikudi who described the training as essential for national growth, said it would make the trainnees to become problem solvers.
Prof. Maikudi who further noted that the University of Abuja is proud to host the programme, encouraged the participants to make the best out of the opportunity.
On her part, the Huawei representative, Dr Niyi Lola Fafore who revealed that the First Lady had trained over 500 women on digital technology under this initiative across the federation, said by the end of the two day training, each participant is expected to launch a business from the knowledge garnered.
“We have been coordinating women in technology all over Nigeria since April 2024, we started with the South West geopolitical zone, before other zones. The North Central been held today in the FCT is the last geopolitical zone, which is the center of Nigeria” Fafore said.
Also, the President/ founder, IWFCI Nigeria chapter, Amb .Cynthia Ejiroghene Edudje urged the women to break all barriers placed on them by the society, and explore the wonderful opportunities that abound in the digital technology space.

Two beneficiaries, Rita Paiku and Eunice, who couldn’t hold their excitement, commended the First Lady for the initiative and opportunity to be among the beneficiaries.
